A man and woman from Princeton were severely injured in Hopkinsville County, KY on Sunday, August 29th, 2021 around 6:00 PM. The pair were flown to hospitals following a car versus motorcycle collision on Eagle Way Bypass.
Couple Injured in Motorcycle Accident in Hopkinsville County, KY last Sunday
According to the Hopkinsville Police Department report, an SUV driven by 25-year-old Christine Massie of Hopkinsville was making a left turn onto the on ramp to the Pennyrile Parkway around 6 p.m. Sunday. She crossed the westbound lane of Eagle Way at the same time as a motorcycle driven by 49-year old Joel Benson. Benson had a passenger rider, 51-year old Helena Benson, and they were hauling a small trailer while traveling in those lanes when the two collided. Reportedly, the pair on the motorcycle were thrown ten to fifteen feet when the front wheel of the motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the SUV making the left turn.
Both riders of the motorcycle were of Princeton. Joel Benson was flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center while Helena Benson was flown to a hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Both sustained serious but thought to be non-life threatening injuries to the head, arms and legs. It is unknown if the passengers of the motorcycle were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Christine Massie, the driver of the SUV, was not injured in the collision.
