Current scam where caller claims to be a Boone County Sheriff. Recent calls state you have missed jury duty and a warrant is out for your arrest.
These scammers are VERY knowledgeable about local government; they know the Sheriff, names such as Major Scheben, Judge Schrand and others.
The claim is that you can pre post bail to avoid arrest and jail. They ask for a prepaid credit card from local retailer such as Kroger and Walgreens, with knowledge of local roads and stores.
They even have local number with recording claiming to be Sheriff’s office. FAKE 859-334-1796. They will leave an urgent message to call.
